Long Lawford Community Choir
About us
We are a small choir of under 20 members who sing a large variety of music from spiritual to pop and everything in between!
We occasionally sing with accompaniment, but more regularly sing acapella which encourages a much richer sound.
We love performing and have made appearances in churches and care homes across Rugby. We even did some carolling at Christmas!
We wear red shoes!
We are the Long Lawford Community Choir. We believe in having fun with singing, but don't be fooled, we work hard too!
A diverse bunch but with a shared love of singing, we all come together to make music.
We don't believe in auditions. If you love singing and are interested in joining us then email us or give us a call and come along to one of our rehearsals on a Saturday afternoon between 5pm and 7pm.
Did we mention we wear red shoes when we perform!!?
Musical Director
Paulo Gomes (Gnomes)
Born in Madeira, Paulo has been in the UK since the age of 14. He trained as a classical Mandolin Player since the age of 6 and did not realise his passion for singing had been there all along until he was 21. Watching Gareth Malone's first Choir programme, the curiosity built up and following some research on the BBC website, he came across Sing for Pleasure who specialise in choral conductor training. After the usual long period of "Shall I, shall I not", he decided to apply for the first course in Birmingham with the fabulous Ula Weber as a tutor to whom he owes a great deal of gratitude! Paulo believes everyone can sing, just like any other task, some people require more help than others. The Mantra is; the only thing stopping you from reaching your dream, is you!
Paulo learns by ear and taught himself to read music after the age of 20. Sacred Music is his preference and any piece which is filled with emotion. He is learning to play the pipe organ, his other lifelong dream, which may take a long while to reach but there is plenty of perseverance!
